New York—March 25, 2022—Cohen Ziffer Frenchman & McKenna LLP’s chair and founding partner Robin Cohen has been named “Insurance Litigator of the Year” by Benchmark Litigation.
The honor was announced at Benchmark’s 10th annual awards ceremony in New York, which recognized the East Coast’s most distinguished litigators and their firms for their work over the past year.
Cohen’s recent victories for Fortune 500 companies, hedge funds, and private equity firms include:
- A first-of-its-kind appellate decision on flood limit clauses that allowed the New Jersey Transit Corporation to access up to $400 million in coverage after Superstorm Sandy;
- A precedent-setting Delaware ruling about a vital term in directors and officers’ liability policies (“securities claims”), giving Verizon Communications $24 million in defense costs and allowing it to seek coverage for a $95 million settlement; and
- The first ruling in New York holding that exclusionary language common to many insurance policies did not bar coverage for COVID-19-related business interruption losses.
This award comes on the heels of a string of recent accolades for Cohen, including her recognition as a “Woman of Influence” by the New York Business Journal, an “MVP” by Law360, and a “Trailblazer” by The New York Law Journal. She is consistently recognized by Chambers USA, Benchmark Litigation, Legal 500, and Lawdragon, and her firm – founded just over a year ago – was selected as the “2021 Litigation Department of the Year for Insurance” by the New York Law Journal and a “2021 Insurance Practice Group of the Year” by Law360.
