Cohen Ziffer Frenchman & McKenna Selected as a Finalist for Insurance Litigation Department of the Year by the New York Law Journal

July 8, 2026·News·2 minute read

Managing Partner Ken Frenchman Recognized as a Distinguished Leader

New York—For the third consecutive year, Cohen Ziffer Frenchman & McKenna LLP has been selected as a finalist for the New York Law Journal’s Insurance Litigation Department of the Year award, which recognizes the leading insurance firms in New York. Additionally, managing partner Ken Frenchman was recognized as a Distinguished Leader for his role in guiding the firm’s growth and success.

Cohen Ziffer has built a national reputation for securing groundbreaking rulings for corporate policyholders facing bet-the-company disputes. The team, which includes more than 35 lawyers based in New York, is consistently at the center of precedent-setting cases across the country, representing more than 100 different Fortune 500 companies and securing over $10 billion in recoveries.

Over the past 18 months alone, Cohen Ziffer has earned more than a dozen victories in matters spanning from complex D&O cases to pollution exclusion disputes, among others. This includes a landmark ruling at the Delaware Supreme Court on behalf of Harman International Industries that provides critical guidance regarding the scope of bump-up exclusions and is expected to have broad implications for D&O coverage for M&A litigation.

Ken’s leadership as managing partner has been a driving force behind the firm’s tremendous growth and success. Since the firm’s founding, he has helped establish Cohen Ziffer’s reputation as a premier insurance recovery boutique, while cultivating a collaborative culture other firms strive to replicate. His leadership shows up in the courtroom, too: earlier this year, Ken secured a significant win for policyholders when the Delaware Supreme Court unanimously affirmed a judgment exceeding $50 million in favor of Genworth in a long-running coverage dispute involving professional liability insurers. The ruling reinforces important limits on insurers’ attempts to rely on broad exclusions to avoid coverage obligations.

This recognition adds to the growing list of accolades that Cohen Ziffer has recently earned. Last month, the firm was ranked in Band 1 by Chambers USA for Insurance: Dispute Resolution: Policyholder in New York and was selected as an Insurance Law Firm of the Year finalist for Law.com’s Elite Trial Lawyers awards. Earlier this year, the firm was also named a Law360 Insurance Practice Group of the Year—the fourth time in five years that the firm has received this honor.
