New York—July 30, 2024—Cohen Ziffer Frenchman & McKenna LLP has been selected as a finalist for the New York Law Journal’s 2024 Insurance Litigation Department of the Year. This annual award recognizes the leading insurance firms in the New York region based on their litigation achievements within the past 18 months.
Practicing at the forefront of complex, cutting-edge insurance litigation across the country, the lawyers of Cohen Ziffer have represented over 100 different Fortune 500 clients and recovered more than $10 billion for corporate policyholders.
Over the past 18 months alone, the firm secured multiple notable victories, including a rare reversal of a pro-insurer jury verdict in a high-profile insurance coverage dispute between AIG Specialty Insurance Company and Conduent State Healthcare—the first jury verdict that Delaware Superior Court Judge Mary Johnston has reversed in nearly 20 years on the bench.
In one of the first decisions addressing coverage for a special purpose acquisition company (SPAC), the firm secured a ruling that directors and officers of Clover Health Investments Corp. count as “insured persons” under a D&O policy issued to Social Capital Hedosophia Holdings Corp., a SPAC that took Clover Health public, and that the SPAC’s D&O insurers must pay defense costs for not only the SPAC itself, but also for its future officers and directors.
This recognition is the latest in a string of accolades that Cohen Ziffer has received from the New York Law Journal. Chair Robin Cohen was selected as a Distinguished Leader by the outlet last year, and the firm was named Insurance Litigation Department of the Year in 2021.
