January 21, 2025—For the third time in four years, Cohen Ziffer Frenchman & McKenna LLP has been named a Law360 Insurance Practice Group of the Year. This annual award honors the teams behind the litigation wins and deals that resonated throughout the legal industry over the past year. Cohen Ziffer is one of only five firms recognized nationally for insurance.
Since its launch in 2021, Cohen Ziffer has established a national reputation for securing groundbreaking rulings for policyholders facing bet-the-company challenges. The team, which has tripled in size to over 30 lawyers, is consistently at the center of precedent-setting cases across the country. Corporate policyholders are often turning to the firm to guide them on complex D&O cases in the highest-stakes securities matters, and the firm is leading the charge in pursuing coverage for opioid-related losses on behalf of some of the nation’s largest retailers.
Earlier this month, Cohen Ziffer secured a win for Harman International Industries involving D&O insurance coverage for an alleged “bump-up” payment in an M&A transaction—a case of intense interest for which members of the Cohen Ziffer team were cited as Law360 Legal Lions.
The firm also recently obtained a victory for Immunomedics Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Gilead Sciences, in an insurance coverage dispute following a securities class action, which its insurer claimed was “related” to an earlier lawsuit. The Delaware Superior Court granted Immunomedics’ motion for summary judgment and denied the insurer’s cross-motion, confirming the claim was not barred by the policy’s “relatedness” provisions.
In 2024, Cohen Ziffer received a string of additional recognition, including a Band 1 ranking by Chambers for Insurance: Dispute Resolution: Policyholder in New York. The firm was also selected as the winner of the Insurance category for Law.com’s Elite Trial Lawyers award and named a finalist for the New York Law Journal’s Insurance Litigation Department of the Year award.
