Cohen Ziffer Named a Law360 2025 Insurance Practice Group of the Year

January 26, 2026·Media Coverage·2 minute read

January 26, 2026 – For the fourth time in five years, Cohen Ziffer Frenchman & McKenna LLP has been named a Law360 Insurance Practice Group of the Year. This annual award honors the teams behind the litigation wins and deals that resonated throughout the legal industry over the past year. Cohen Ziffer is one of only five firms recognized nationally for insurance.

Since its launch in 2021, Cohen Ziffer has established a national reputation for securing groundbreaking rulings for policyholders facing bet-the-company challenges. The team, which has tripled in size to over 30 lawyers, is consistently at the center of precedent-setting cases across the country. Within the past year, the firm has secured more than a dozen victories for corporate policyholders in matters ranging from business interruption disputes to complex D&O cases, among others.

Those victories include a decisive ruling secured last month at the Delaware Supreme Court on behalf of AMC Entertainment Holdings, affirming a lower court’s ruling that a stock settlement payment was a covered “loss” under AMC’s insurance policy. The decision set a vital precedent for policyholders seeking coverage for settlements paid with non-cash compensation, and also confirmed that policy interpretation starts—and ends—with the words of the policy itself.

The firm also recently obtained a victory for Frontier Communications, when the Delaware Superior Court ruled that Frontier’s insurers must defend the company against secondary copyright infringement claims, finding that notice obligations are governed by policy language and rejecting the insurers’ attempts to use technical exclusions to avoid coverage. The decision reinforced limits on insurers’ ability to sidestep defense in copyright and other IP-related disputes.

Cohen Ziffer’s Practice Group of the Year win comes on the heels of Law360’s recent feature on the firm, which highlighted the team’s aggressive litigation strategy, big wins against insurance giants, and the close-knit culture that fuels the group’s success. The firm received a string of additional recognition in 2025, including a Band 1 ranking by Chambers for Insurance: Dispute Resolution: Policyholder in New York and selection as Insurance Law Firm of the Year in Law.com’s Elite Trial Lawyers award.
