NEW YORK—Cohen Ziffer Frenchman & McKenna LLP is pleased to announce that partner Marc Ladd has been recognized as a 2022 Northeast Trailblazer by The American Lawyer. He is one of 50 individuals honored in this year’s report.
Ladd has extensive experience handling a wide range of insurance coverage disputes on behalf of his corporate policyholder clients. While he characterizes himself as “a counselor before a litigator,” Ladd has secured landmark rulings for policyholders, including a New Jersey Supreme Court decision that entitled New Jersey Transit to its full $400 million policy limit following losses from Hurricane Sandy. The case—which Ladd argued at the New Jersey Appellate Division—was one of the first of its kind in the country regarding coverage for named windstorms, and helped a public entity get the coverage it needed to operate.
Earlier this year, Ladd was part of the Cohen Ziffer trial team that represented PES Holdings, the owner of an oil refinery destroyed in an explosion, in a dispute against its carriers; the case settled favorably three days into the scheduled two-week trial. Ladd has also been a leading force in business interruption cases involving coverage for COVID-19, and was one of the first attorneys in the country to defeat an insurer’s motion to dismiss and obtain a ruling that an insurance policy’s contamination exclusion did not apply to COVID-19.
