My Approach

I approach each matter with the recognition that legal disputes present unique financial and logistical challenges and disruptions to clients’ businesses. To ease their burdens and anxieties, I provide the best advice possible in an efficient and empathetic way.

Overview

With a wealth of experience across a wide range of litigation scenarios, Ethan Weinberg draws on a deep well of knowledge to help clients navigate their insurance recovery disputes. His representations have included both individuals and organizations in the public and private arenas, spanning an array of industries, such as private equity, investment banking, hedge funds, health care, pharmaceuticals, entertainment, education, and technology, among others.

Previously, Ethan has advocated for clients in federal and state courts in many types of litigation, including complex and class actions, employment cases, and disputes between contractual counterparties, as well as internal investigations and regulatory work involving the Department of Justice and the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Ethan quickly develops comfort and facility with new subject matter and enjoys immersing himself in learning about, for example, the science underlying a client’s business processes or a novel type of legal claim. Never afraid to get “into the weeds” and get his hands dirty, he is accustomed to digging through piles of old insurance policies to identify potential coverage and tying historical insurance companies to current carriers.

Aware that an issue can turn on a single phrase or word in a contract, Ethan pays close attention to detail to extract valuable inferences and insights. Balancing his focus on important minutiae with a big-picture outlook, he folds key pieces of information into cases in a way that sheds light and provides the client with new opportunities and more paths to advantageous resolutions.

Ethan prioritizes developing strong relationships and getting to know his clients beyond the matters at hand to better understand how their cases fit into their overarching business strategies. He then explores potential solutions and, together with those he represents, charts the best path forward to achieving their goals.

Because he knows his clients are juggling many tasks under various time constraints, Ethan delivers advice with efficiency, tailoring his guidance to clients’ preferred level of detail and their understanding of legal concepts and language. He writes with clarity and directness, and he doesn’t sugarcoat bad news.

Ethan’s performance background enhances his effectiveness as an oral advocate, including his ability to think on his feet and pivot as necessary. Clients and colleagues appreciate his sound judgment, good timing, team-player approach, and keen sense of humor, which includes an instinctive grasp of which moments need a bit of levity.

Ethan has participated in many pro bono cases, placing a focus on LGBTQ issues.
